Upgrading to Premium

To upgrade GA4Dataform Core to Premium, you will need to re-run the installer on your existing GA4 BigQuery export dataset.

Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Obtain your new Premium licence key.
  2. Run the installer.
  3. Select your Google Cloud Project (with GA4 BigQuery export).
  4. Select the GA4 BigQuery export dataset.
  5. Click Install GA4Dataform.

The dataset you select should be the one where you previously installed GA4Dataform Core. Up to this point, the steps are very similar to your initial installation. From here, the process differs, starting with a new warning message:

GA4Dataform updates are non-destructive. They create a new workspace while maintaining compatibility with previous versions. You can safely click Continue Upgrade. This will take you to the installer success message:

You can now open your GA4Dataform repository, where you will find your new Premium workspace.

The update is now completed. However there are three important implications highlighted in warning message displayed previously:

1. Recompile your Release configuration​

  • Go to Releases & scheduling
  • In the Release configuration section, click on your production release.
  • A new panel will open. Click New Compilation.

(this step is only necessary if you want to immediatly run a full-refresh on your tables. Otherwise, your Releases configuration will be automatically recompiled the next day)

2. Rebuild your tables​

Premium introduces schema changes compared to Core.
This means you must fully rebuild your tables:

  • Go to Releases & scheduling
  • Select Start Execution > All actions > Run with full refresh

This step is mandatory, otherwise you will encounter errors in your workflow execution due to schema incompatibilities.
